Students collaborating with UHS Media Specialist Daniel Summers and Ed Tech Leader Summer Cochran, with the support of Principal Kim Greene, have secured a grant from The Benedum Foundation and EQT to launch their Portals Project. This initiative will involve the team working alongside architects and tech professionals utilizing advanced technology to digitally preserve a significant aspect of our community. The Portals Project is an integral component of Brownsville, Pennsylvania's Perennial Project. We are thrilled to participate in this collaboration and extend our gratitude to Joe Barantovich and his team, as well as to The Benedum Foundation and EQT for this invaluable opportunity.

2026 Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,930 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

We will host a Financial Aid Information Session on Tuesday, September 30th from 5:30-6:30 in the UHS Auditorium. A financial aid expert will present about the FAFSA as well as state and federal financial aid programs, including West Virginia’s Promise Scholarship, Invests Grant, and Higher Education Grant. Any student/parent planning to pursue a certificate program, a two or four year college degree, or any other education beyond graduation are encouraged to attend.
